My TRUNK on the Ecologist by Julia Nelson

Another expert upcycler is top ethical fashion stylist and founder of Ethical Heaven, Lupe Castro. ‘If a beautiful chair is missing a leg it doesn’t make it less beautifuI,’ she explains. ‘I feel I need to sort of help it along by maybe using a rolling pin covered in material or a varnished brick, a marble bauble or part of an iron balustrade. The trick is to give it a new but beautiful twist.’ The latest pieces she’s been refashioning are some travelling trunks that she found tucked away in her new apartment. She describes them as ‘a little bit worse for wear’ but says they’re evocative of a bygone era where train travel, painted faces and cocktails at six were de rigueur. ‘I took the trunk and stuck an old mirror in the flap and covered the rest with leftover materials that both my mother and grandmother had knocking about, and have used them as dressing table. I love boxes and ribbons and secret nooks and crannies – every time I open the trunk I feel like I’m jumping into another time and it makes me so happy.’When it comes to sourcing furniture, Lupe swears by the Salvation Army shop in Wandsworth, flea markets and small town auction houses, although she admits that some of her best finds have come from skips on the street..... read all the article at

Dirtypretty all the way from BIRMINGHAM for one week at Mswandas POP UP

Dirtypretty designer(above) and other fabulous upcycling talent like RoundLondon and QueenieandTed are holding court at the Fabulous Misswandas at 3-5 Whitechapel road E1 together with Sweetnotions. The latter being the purveyors of my latest handbags
at the ridiculous prices of £10 and £5.

Duly impressed with MsWandas pledge of only wearing vintage and upcycled for a whole year! Although only seen for a fleeting second she looked truly fab in her specially made silk 20`s dress.

Rewardrobe star Veronica Crespi is running one of the workshops throughout the week catch her if you can!

Guys and new labels!

Its time for guys and this a helping hand for my long suffering little man that is not allowed even to look at cloths that are not ethical.
Being a rather classic chappy with favourite pieces which are brought out time and time again and are fraying bit by bit Elena Garcia has come as quite a find. A total recycle fanatic whose steely determination to do something about landfill even took me by surprise.
15 years in this country with a studio nestling in a rather stupendous part of Finsbury, Her shirts are a toast creative thinking. Take one man shirt frayed but loved choose from one of her 7 models wait for a couple of weeks and hey presto new customised man shirt that fits perfectly of course and is truly unique. Well if this an example of up cycling give me more love it. At a starting price of £75 unique cheap. Have a couple of male birthdays that span from 22 to 82 so going to give a try. Watch this space for the commentary.

As I have always said each designer has a special piece to die for and untouched world is no exception. When a couple of their pieces made there way to yours truly I discovered the beauty Of a good design in merino wool. Here it is they also have another piece that Works well not being a great fan of the wrap over dancer cardi thingy I must say I have now been completely converted to this one it fits and does the trick with lovely rushed. Bits at the sides hiding our lovely womanly bits...its not cheap but nothing beautiful ever is Check out the site. The images are not the hottest out but yours truly has tried and tested and they are special!!!! Hoping to get a 20% discount for friends and families well dont say I didnt try!
Did a bit of Ethical spotting at Liberty yesterday in the hope that with their 50% sale I might be able to grab a hot bargain. Huh !
